Mediation is a procedure of dispute resolution between the parties which helps the disputing parties reach a settlement of their disputes. Its features are as follows:

- Parties are able to strengthen their relations;
- Minimizes costs; and
- Speedier resolution.
Conciliation
Conciliation is a procedure of dispute resolution between the parties, governed by the Arbitation and Conciliation Act, 1996, which helps the disputing parties reach a settlement of their disputes. Its features are as follows:
- Informal procedure;
- Confidential;
- Parties are able to strengthen their relations;
- Minimizes costs;
- Speedier resolution;
- Settlement agreement is enforceable as an arbitral award.
